What to Wear to a Summer Wedding

Weddings are the one social event you don’t want to mess up. If you wear the wrong dress to a gala, it’s embarrassing but you can survive. If you wear the wrong thing to the wedding you could offend the bride and all involved! It’s not just an event to them, it’s a personal day to celebrate love and commitment. Needless to say, preparing for weddings as a guest can be stressful. The pressure is on for the ladies; you want to look stunning but you absolutely cannot take any attention away from the bride.

There are plenty of options to get you through the rest of the summer but keep in mind these 3 basic tips:
  1. Never wear white to a wedding (unless otherwise specified by the bride).
  2. It’s better to be overdressed than under-dressed.
  3. Have fun!

Not every woman loves wearing dresses and despite what you see at celebrity weddings and in movies, there are other options. In fact, over the last several years jumpsuits have been gaining popularity. The appeal? Jumpsuits offer a high fashion look while being comfortable. If you are looking for a dress alternative, try a jumpsuit! There are styles to fit the range of wedding dress codes. Because it is summertime, look at lighter fabrics like linen.

Cocktail Dresses

Cocktail dresses come in all shapes, sizes, and styles making it easier for women to find the perfect one for each of them. These dresses are a great option for a semi-formal dress code (see Tip 3). You have structured dresses for a more formal affair and dresses with light chiffon to give you the perfect beach wedding look. Best of all, many cocktail dresses can be worn time and time again! The Little Black Dress is a classic staple that should be in every woman’s closet for its timeless versatility. Another perk of the cocktail dress is they are fairly common so you don’t have to break the bank in order to find one. Department stores tend to have a great selection at better prices than the boutique shops.

If you’re attending a summer wedding and you don’t know exactly what to wear, break out your favorite sundress. This warm weather staple is perfect for a casual or daytime event. Again, because of the weather this time of year, embrace fabrics that allow you to breathe. This is also not the time for the cute sundress you wear to brunch with the girls, try to find one that has a longer hemline. Just because it is a casual dress code, does not mean you have to be muted; bright colors and bold prints can give a simple sundress personality and keep you from blending too much into the crowd.

Evening Gowns

There is always the chance that the wedding you are attending is black-tie. If that’s the case and you find yourself in need of an evening gown there are summer friendly options! Again, stick with lighter, flowing fabrics. Silk-organza, tulle, and chiffon are fantastic for the season. Keep in mind Tip 1 and find a color other than white to wear to the special event. Try something new like coral or sea glass green to give some vibrancy to your look! Don’t forget to accessorize; summer nights can get chilly. If that’s the case, a shawl is a gorgeous option to stick in your purse. You don’t want anything, especially a chill, distracting you from a wonderful time.
